WEST BASIN :
The terminal is about 10 nauticalmiles west of the existing Mundra port terminals.
The West Basin is being designed as an Import bulk handling terminal with the capacity to handle capesize vessels. It is located geographically west of the existing berths. Each berth is designed to have handling capacity of 12 MMT per annum. On completion, West Basin will have 20 berths with the potential to handle 200 mmt of bulk cargo.
The basin will be developed in phased manner. Two deep water offshore berths in Phase I Development and one additional berth will be added in Phase II.
The Ist phase, West basin trial runs have been carried out on 12/12/2010 with the berthing of its first cargo vessel M.V. CSK Beilun with LOA of 289 mtrs and beam of 45 mtrs. With the commissioning of the West Basin, Mundra Port is poised to become the world largest coal import terminal.
- 1. The West Basin Terminal has been built to meet the coal requirement for the two mega power projects which have been set up by Adani Power and Tata Power. The West Basin Terminal will have an installed capacity of 33 MMTA in the first phase which will be enhanced to 50 MMTA in phase 2. The first phase consists of three capsize berths, the total length of which will be 1126 meters and width of 38.82 meters. The construction of the first two berths has already been completed and the third berth is in final stages of construction. The berths will finally be able to accommodate three capsize vessels of 325 meters LOA and 55 meters beam drawing a loaded draft of 19 meters.
- 2. Four ship unloading gantries each of 2000 MT/hr capacity have already been installed making it possible to unload a fully laden Capesize vessel within 2.5 days.
Two Mega Thermal Power Plants with total capacity in excess of 8600 MW are being constructed in Mundra Region. The plants require very high volumes of imported coal, up to 30 Million Metric Tonnes Per Annum (MMTPA). In addition other dry volumes such as Iron Ore etc are also to be imported for the industries planned in the vicinity of power plants.
SOUTH BASIN :
The South Basin is located at the southern side of Navinal island and adjacent to the existing berths. It has designed to handle container and automobile cargo. These berths will have draught of 17.5 mtrs with a capacity to handle 6.5 million TEUs and 0.7 million automobile exports.
The basin will be developed in phased manner. Since Phase II development projects shall be continuing over a longer period for sake of convenience this phase is further split into two sub-phases i.e. Phase-IIA and Phase-IIB.
North BASIN :
The North Basin is primarily looked into hub for coastal shipping.
EAST BASIN:
East Basin will be developed as an engineering hub as it requires more water front & less draught.
MINI SHIPYARD:
Mundra port has first of its kind a Mini Shipyard using balloon technology. This has been designed and operationalised at Mundra primarily to cater to tugs, dredgers and Offshore Supply boats upto 100 mtrs in length.
OTHER DEVELOPMENTS :
- Pure Car carrier/ Pure Car Truck carrier (PCC / PCTC) berth with appropriate car parking space.
- Addition of two more crossing stations along the 64 KM privately developed railway line to increase the rakes handling capacity from 32 to 40 rakes a day. Double lanning of the 64 km railway line in phased manner.
- Construction of dedicated LNG berth.
This is the first private four lane fly-over bridge within port area in India capable of withstanding a load bearing capacity of 100 MT.
